Anthony Pan is a communication and interaction designer currently at Carnegie Mellon University where he is studying Communications Design and Human-Computer Interaction. As a designer, Anthony wants his creations to make people smile and evoke feelings of joy and excitement. This website is a visual exploration dedicated to his design hero, Michael Bierut.
Why Michael Bierut?
The reason I chose Michael Bierut as my design hero, initially was because of the visuals he created. I would stare at his Yale posters, admiring the visual complexity the letterform silhouettes created on each poster. I was amazed by intricate relationship between form and function in each poster and would often ask myself “how the hell did he do that?” As I began doing further research into his career, his work, and his philosophy, I gained a further appreciation for his designs and his mission. Bierut states that every opportunity has the potential to change and impact someone’s daily life. I take this advice to heart and strive to incorporate this sentiment in my present and future work.
